Debra Firestone, M.D. started her private practice at The Eye Center in 2000. She was born and raised in New York City and received her undergraduate degree in Biology and was Pre-Med at Binghamton University in New York. She then attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she graduated with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She subsequently completed an Internal Medicine Internship at Long Island Jewish Hospital. While at New Jersey Medical School for her ophthalmology residency, Dr. Firestone received an award for excellence in residency and was also chosen as Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. She remains a member of the clinical faculty at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School where she works with students and residents as a clinical instructor and teaches residents how to perform cataract surgery.
Dr. Firestone is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and did her re-certification in 2013. She has advanced training in all aspects of comprehensive ophthalmology, including the medical and surgical management of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes as well as routine eye care. She performs small incision no stitch cataract surgery with and without the LenSx® laser system and has many years of experience with premium intraocular lenses including astigmatism correcting and multifocal implants.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Firestone likes to spend time with her family and dog. She also loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking, skiing, biking, traveling, and playing tennis and golf.
