Dr. Justin Schaefers, who joined The Eye Center in 2020, was born and raised in South Dakota. As an undergraduate, he attended the University of South Dakota and studied biology. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences School of Optometry in Worcester, MA. During his training, Dr. Schaefers completed several externships to further his optometric education, including community health centers, veteran’s affairs hospitals and private eye clinics across the country.
Dr. Schaefers is trained in full-scope optometry. He is able to perform routine eye care for all ages, including pediatrics. He is experienced in fitting standard and specialty contact lenses. In addition to routine eye exams, Dr. Schaefers specializes in the medical management of glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, dry eye syndrome, and surgical co-management of ocular surgeries.
Dr. Schaefers has enjoyed using his optometric experience in giving back to local and international communities. He has provided local vision screenings in churches and for the Special Olympics. Through VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) International, Dr. Schaefers was able to travel to Nicaragua and provide needed eyecare to impoverished communities
Dr. Schaefers is currently a member of the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians and the American Optometric Association.
